Kauai Chocolate Farm-A Yummy place to visit!

The last day of our vacation we went to the Chocolate Farm in Kauai. It was very interesting.

The "farm" that we saw, had a rather limited amount of chocolate trees. The idea seemed to be to either sell or give chocolate trees to other people until the island had enough trees to produce enough coacoa for them to actually start processing it and making chocolate out of it.
These minute flowers are really very very tiny and this is where it starts.
 Developing.

I'm not sure how large it gets when ripe, but this is along the way.
These are vanilla beans. They must be elaborately hand pollenated.

This bird insisted on landing almost on my camera, so I took a shot of him.
I'll add some photos of the other plants at the farm in another post.
We ended the tour with samples of over ten various chocolates from all over the world. It was a fun tasting activity. Michelle showed us how to make chocolate from the beans. It is not something one could readily do at home, but it was interesting. Dark chocolate nibs are healthy. Milk chocolate has milk and does not allow for the absorption of all the 'good' stuff in chocolate, so is deleted from the health benefit list. Just eat dark chocolate!  We did!

Mmmmm. Dark chocolate are my favorite! Now I won't feel so guilty eating them.
