Logandale trails

Last weekend we took the time to visit Logandale trails. It was beautiful weather and everyone was enjoying the red red red.
Lana took a turn driving.

Hummmm. A truck hood with three seats bolted onto it. Where is Joe and the ropes when you want a little down home fun?

The petroglyphs (incised, pecked or scratched rock art) were facinating to view.

Michael asked why no one else ever saw the mountain sheep. Can you see the one here?
(It's the spec at the top in the middle.) Actually if you double click on the photo, it will enlarge enough to see the sheep.

How time flys!

It seems like such a short time ago that Nate was this size. He has grown so much. His grandparents are very excited to see him for a few days when he visits.
Ellie is a little girl now, instead of a baby girl. We are looking forward to having fun with her also. Hurry up time and fly by some more.

Random pics as I put away the memories of Kauai.

At any time of the day, at any point on the island-Walmart's parking area, a remote nature walk , the top of Waimea Canyon, or outside one's window at the break of day-one saw or heard roosters.
In the mists of early morning.

This is an antique detail from inside the Kilohana Plantation. We took a train ride; went on a guided plantation walk and saw many plants and vegetation. Later we dined at the Luau Kalamaku, where we enjoyed watching dancers and performers.

Blow hole on the southern part of the island.

Na Pali coast from helicopter.

Mahala and aloha to everyone we met and enjoyed there. What a fun group of people!

Lighthouse and greenery.

This was a beauty we came upon walking around Kauai.

Coconut anyone? On the north shore sits the Kileauea Point light. It is north of Kileauea. It was established in 1913. Sadly, like so many lighthouses it was deactivated in 1976. Still very striking to look at though.

Water view of the light.

Some of my favorite places wherever I am.

What is the best part of a quilt shop? The displayed quilts of course! This shop had many Hawaiian themed quilts hanging from the ceiling. The owner graciously gave permission for me to take pictures of anything I wanted. It was a very friendly well stocked place.

A whale of a quilt and a whale of a time. When do we go back there?

In Kauai the flowers are abundant and in bright colors.

This delicate pink was near the top of Waimea Canyon growing along the roadside.

This bloom grew abundantly in the forested part of a plantation we visited.

In contrast this small delicacy was growing out in the open.

The proud beauty was seen quite often.

Surprises

Needless to say, the photo does not do justice to the beauty of this area. Waimea canyon was very rugged and colorful.
A view of coastline from atop the Waimea Canyon.

I was surprised to see blue hydrangas ( as well as lantana) near the top of Waimea Canyon. An islander told me that about 95 % of the plants are not native. This one had taken root and was growing wild.

Water, water, water everywhere.

A quick storm came in and sand almost pitted our legs with the wind force.
Kauai was having winter weather and the waves were magnificent.

Over the top.

While visiting Kauai Michael and I went on a helicopter ride. The weather was wet and we had to fly well below the clouds. The mountains were so rugged and lovely. It is very difficult to see the vivid colors here.

A few more reminders of last week.

It was fun to have Grandpa to play with.

Grandpa took everyone for a ride to the lake, with a stop for pop and goodies on the way. Where's your other sock Nate?

Michael spent much of his time reading. He is a very astute reader for his age.

I have returned to Las Vegas.

The fun week of babysitting is over. I am back to early morning walks and paying bills. Well, life has to have some order and mundane parts I assume.
