More fruit please.

My Tuesday smoothie was too much watermelon and lettuce. I had a bad experience with getting Tuesday's down, so did not make one yesterday. Today I had more fruit than green (mostly because I haven't been to Sunflower Market to get the greens).

I realize the picture came out a bit blurry, but my feet were wobbling on my MBT's. One can see that it is more dark pink than green.  I really miss not putting bananas in as I think that makes the flavor good. I have frozen strawberries and will try those tommorrow.

Let's read a book

Juliana came over, ate some corn and mac and cheese. She played with the blocks for a while and then when I put her jammies on and wanted to take a picture-whoosh- she selected a book and sat in Granpa's chair to read.

Now we get the full concept of her cute hippo pajamas.

Sweet dreams little girl.

A little bit goes a long way.

Day three green smoothie.
1 1/2 apples-cored not peeled
2 apricots-pitted
about ten strawberries-cold
1 frozen banana
--
red kale-3/4 of the bunch
4 wild small dandelions-root and leaves
parsley from side garden

A small amount of parsely is very flavorful. I got too much and it's a tad bit hard going down. Not sure I'll accomplish drinking the WHOLE thing. We'll see.

Yes I did find two more tomato bugs this am.  My garden is fast not standing a chance.

Must be too early in the morning.

Okay, so I am actually looking at many of the recipe books and magazines ( and pulling out some recipes )before I toss them. I made a stack of paperbooks from which I didn't remove any recipes;

I thought I'd offer it to the young mothers in the ward and dump the ones they didn't take. Looking through blurry eyes earlier this morning I noticed a book that had fallen down behind some of the others.
I read the words: A taste for human blood and did a double take. Where had I gotten that cook book?
After a few contortions of my body I pulled it out. It was Paul Zindel's Night of the bat on the front of the book and had A taste for Human blood on the back.  Ah yes, a children's book I had picked up for Adam; maybe for next year. Mystery solved.

A sunflower at last!

I was excited to see a sunflower growing in my garden; apparently it made it through last year and came up this year as I was told not to plant any gourds and thus did not plant any superfluous sunflower seeds. The only problem is that it came up next to the wrought iron fence and faces into the dog pen. All pictures look like it is in prison.

I was totally upset to see that the buds, blossoms, and leaves were chewed off one of my favorite cherry tomato plants. I looked early this morning and discovered the culprit. I got gloves, and pliers and pulled it off into a sandwich baggie. I also found relatives and dropped them into other baggies. I then put them under my car tire and ran over them, both front and reverse. Very very irritating to be getting tomatoes and them find the green monsters ruining the harvest!

I went out later in the day and found two more! Hope I've found the majority of them!

Smoothie day two

My recipe today was:
5 strawberries ( leftover from Mike's breakfast-so washed and available)
1/2 apple ( leftover from Juliana last night)-cored, but skins left on.
1 peeled very ripe peach
1 frozen banana
1 large bunch of kale.

This one was cooler because the banana was frozen; will have to try ice one day soon.

Yummy green goop!

Okay, I know this doesn't look good, but it tasted good. I agree that adding ice or freezing the bananas before making the green smoothie would have made it more appetizing.   And yes that little blop on the edge of the glass is a bit intimidating-but hey I did drink down two of these.

I put in two bananas ( ripe ones), a peach, a handful of blueberries and two large handfuls of baby spinach.
Tommorrow I'll try the same with a different green-got to vary the greens and keep the alkaloids at bay.  I have taken the first step. Yeah!

Just so you believe it is really happening.

You don't need to read this: it simply states that I am actually getting things tossed from the study.

Journal entry July 16, 2010

Michael has gone to work. We got up around 2:30; I fixed breakfast (three over easy eggs with toast and jam) while Michael finished up in the bathroom. After finding him phone numbers for Panguitch Meats and Panguitch Taxidermist, I went back to bed and he went to work. We are having a heat wave here in Las Vegas; temperatures are in the three digits; it was around 115 yesterday.

I woke up and couldn’t sleep a little before six. It was so nice to sleep in for a change!

This is the day I’ll attach and begin to conquer the study I mused. Nannette had suggested that I simply dump all cookbooks ( at the least the paper ones from the supermarket). Of course I was not able to do this and quickly became bogged down in reading recipes and tips. It was quite fun actually. I did manage to discard some of the advertisement pages. Now I have a large pile of colorful pages to be categorized into specific food sections. Oh dear, I looked up and saw some notebooks on the top shelf. Looking into them I found old school notes.

I managed to really banish these into the gray waste basket. Here’s proof.

However the next notebook was defeating as it had interesting recipes and notes about Nannette’s wedding.

I was back to the memory of making her Dupioni (silk, hers made in India) dress and making a pattern for the duplicate doll dress ( and a suit for the male doll). It was interesting that the Beehive temple clothing bill was 78.30 ( and had a 71 cent discount?).

THE LACE SHOP was in business then and lace for the dress was $48.62. This was marked dress trim sleeves.

There is a note with someone named Angie Pischotta and the word cake.Another note seems to indicate she did the sheet cake. Interesting as another note states Pam Gleason-cake. Another notes simply states: Mike-nice suit; Joe-has four in his closet.

Also included in the paperwork is a large Citibank bill ( $3781.04) that I detailed in hand written notes-gas, dinner, room shore excursions, clell and Mike suites, luggage, goblets, Tammy dress, doll things. A large piece of that cost was for a trip to Alaska. It definitely was not the best time to go with so many other important events happening, but that is when we went with Lynne and Mont.

Slowly I was able to trash whole receipts ( much faded with age) for wedding bowls, paper plates, food,( $599.04 for food trays from Smith’s) salad fixings, wedding punch,

even a $85.60 receipt from Dillard’s that appears to have been the cost of the dress I wore.

Nice to get rid of those unnecessary scraps of paper.

Kristi Stratton helped people with Wedding receptions at the time and was a tremendous help organizing and supplying items for the reception at our home.

An hour later I was almost finished with “Nannette’s wedding” memorbelia. Almost- I saved two sheets and two photos; as said in Gone with the Wind, I decide what to do with them tomorrow.

Next I went onto serious ripping and taking out old recipes from specially categorized notebooks. I tossed anything that LOOKED strange and all recipes with the words ‘gumbo’ soup in them.

When I sent to East High School in Salt Lake City I was required to take a home education class. Half the year was sewing and half the year was cooking. I located and destroyed the liver and mushrooms recipe we were required to cook. At the time it tasted okay, but I can’t fathom even sampling it now. Yuck.

I discovered several rabbit recipes, and quickly destroyed them.

Two hours later, I was still reading and ‘sorting’ recipes. I started feeling bonkers about this time. Need to move more quickly as the space on the top shelf was not getting any larger.

When I began this morning I set nine o’clock as my stop time. Time to shower, dress and make sure any shopping was accomplished before Michael came home tired and hungry. I made it until 8:51 and ran to the shower. Enough was enough!

Being a two year old

Sometimes being a two year old can make it difficult to share...

These two discovered a tiny tea set and Nate seemed a little perplexed of what one did with these teeny dishes.  They were just too small to put anything of consequence into.

Juliana, however was able to get great enjoyment from the wee cup.  Nate followed suit, but the picture didn't come out. ( They move so quickly).

Later Nate found a small pink spoon and immediately fed the bear. Good work Nate.

What fun little busy bodies to have around.

Reading the ads

I know this is blurry, but it was cute to see grandpa and Juliana reading the paper together. Both were reading ads; his were tools; hers were food.  As soon as the flash hit her, Juliana jumped up and raced around the room. No more photos.

Family and Family

Memories here will always be how HOT it was.
These brave ones preservered and made it to the red rocks.  Arent' they cute?
Trying to remember...why does Nate have his ears covered, oh yes, now I remember...
Happy birthday to Natalie with pointy hats and cupcakes.
