The road between Brian Head and Panguitch Lake was closed Friday morning, so we drove around through Panguitch to get to cabin. It snowed again Saturday and Saturday night. Then the snow drifted. Our neighbor was there with his wife, daughter and her friend. He was glad that Michael put on the plow and plowed out a path from our cabins to the road around the lake. Neither of us would have been able to drive through the deep snow to get there otherwise. However, we discovered the road surrounding the lake had not been plowed. Our neighbor wanted to put on his chains. Dad said it was a powdery snow and he would be fine. He drove ( with it very deep and blowing up onto his hood and over his windshield) until almost to the ranger station.
As you can see in this photo the snow was simply too deep here to keep going. We all debated what to do then. On all other years this road had been cleared by this time of day. Doug finally decided he would walk through the snow to the store and see if he could gather any info there. The snow was waist deep, so he tried walking on the top of the snow bank. That even worked in some spots.
Before Doug got to the store a snow plow came! Yeah we thought we were rescued. Doug climbed in and the snow plow truck came towards us. Swosh some snow flew up and covered his windshield-and he went into the side of the road and got stuck! If you look carefully, you will see the snow is up to the zigzap wooden fend on the right side in front of Doug's truck.
It took a long time to get the snowplow truck unstuck. We were again happy. Happiness was short lived as after only a few more feet he was stuck the second time. The second snow plow was stuck on the other side of the lake-apparently they had walkie talkies going.
Finally- the second truck came towed the first plow back to the store and the second plow came first and we managed to get out of there. It only took a couple of hours- but it seemed like forever!
