Nature's broken glass

We spent Thanksgiving break at Panguitch Lake. It was a cool 41 degrees inside the cabin when we first arrived Wednesday night. It warmed up quickly as the warm from the wood burning stove fanned through the house.

We decided to take a lake shore walk on Thursday. I don't know the how of this, but the close up view was fantastic. It looked like sheets of glass piled along part of the shoreline.

When I sent a piece of this ice out onto the lake it shatter the ice piece and skimmed in many directions on the frozen ice top. Much more fun than skipping stones in the summer!

On Thursday much of the middle of the lake itself was not frozen. There were very black birds swimming around one part that was near shore and not frozen. A man and his son were fishing and catching fish from off the dirt extension pushed into the lake. Very cool.
